Water the noble Dendrobium
The irrigation of the Dendrobium nobile requires some precautions. First of all we must take into account the season: during the winter you will have to minimize the water supply in order to get a rich and luxuriant flowering when spring arrives. On the contrary, regularly watering it even during the cold season will not produce a great flower production but will stimulate the development of keiki, cuttings useful for the propagation of other plants. During the spring and summer seasons instead, the Dendrobium nobile will need abundant and regular watering. To avoid the onset of diseases and infections, make sure that the water does not stagnate in the vessel. If possible use demineralized water and not tap water, this orchid is in fact particularly sensitive to chlorine.
Grow the Dendrobium nobile
Dendrobium nobile is a tropical plant and as such requires warm and humid environmental conditions. Place it in a very bright environment, but avoid exposing it to direct sunlight. In the case of too high temperatures (over 28 ° C), make sure to keep the leaves moist by vaporizing the surface with demineralized water. Periodically remove the withered flowers and leaves, this will minimize the risk of infection and strengthen flowering. At the end of the vegetative period, with the arrival of winter, place the Dendrobium nobile in a cool and bright place at a temperature of about 10 ° to favor the winter rest and to prepare the plant for new flowering. Avoid exposing it to cold drafts and temperatures below 8 °.
Fertilize the Dendrobium nobile
The Dendrobium nobile should be fertilized, taking care to add the right amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium to the soil depending on the vegetative period in which the plant is found. Towards the end of winter, use a high phosphorus fertilizer to achieve a strong and luxuriant flowering. Throughout the growing season (from mid-February to late August) the use of a fertilizer with a high nitrogen content will be essential to keep the plant strong, robust and resistant to disease. At the end of summer, when the plant enters the vegetative rest, a balanced fertilizer can be used. To avoid damage to the roots due to toxic accumulations, fertilize at regular intervals no more than once every two weeks.
Dendrobium nobile orchid: Diseases of the noble Dendrobium
To minimize the danger of infections and diseases, we must ensure that the Dendrobium nobile always has the right degree of moisture, nourishment and cleanliness. The main diseases to which this plant can go and which must be fought as soon as possible are infestations with red spider mites and cochineal. The red spider damages the flowers and leaves irreversibly. It can be prevented by keeping the leaves moist and treating the plant with special pesticides. Also the cochineal is favored by the hot and dry climate, in this case it is necessary to intervene promptly by cleaning the plant with wads soaked in a solution obtained by mixing water with alcohol or, alternatively, with water and a few drops of Marseille soap.
